Culturally, it’s a key facet of Candlebark’s life, and our students regularly compete – and triumph – in chess tournaments up to the national level. Our students have played chess in tents, on top of mountains, and on long-distance trains.

Chess develops critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and emotional resilience. Chess played mindfully promotes patience, foresight, and strategic thinking. It is accessible to all learners, regardless of their age or literacy and numeracy skills.

Our weekly classes aim to foster these abilities in students of all ages, creating a space where they can develop patience and strategy. By offering this program, we hope to nurture not just future chess champions, but stronger, more considered learners.
